A record of action, and a promise of more

1. Liz Lynne fought moves by Labour MEPs to limit voluntary overtime by ending Britain’s Opt Out on the 48 hour limit in the Working Time Directive. Liz and the LibDems campaigned with the Retained Firefighters Union to keep the Opt Out, vital for fire services using retained firefighters in counties like Shropshire and Warwickshire.
    
2. Liz Lynne's greatest success as our Euro MP has been to force the UK to ban age discrimination in the workplace. Because of Liz’s tenacity further anti-discrimination legislation is being brought forward, supported by campaigners from across Europe, which will outlaw discrimination in access to goods and services on grounds of disability, age, religion or belief and sexual orientation. Race and gender are already covered.
    
3. Liz Lynne successfully campaigned for Britain to claim £33 million from the EU Solidarity Fund to help fund repair work after the devastating floods of 2007, which seriously affected the West Midlands and closed the Severn Valley Railway in Worcestershire and Shropshire. The SVR received help from the European Social Fund to fund £3 million of repairs.

 

Liz Lynne has worked to support police action to crack down on evil gangs trafficking people into cities like Birmingham as sex slaves.

Liz has fought government plans for huge so-called ‘Eco-town’ developments at Curborough near Lichfield and at Middle Quinton in Warwickshire.

Liz Lynne has worked to cut red tape, boost regeneration and help businesses trade more freely with other European countries.
